Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.
— James 4:11
I don’t normally write about politics on this blog, for a number of reasons. I believe that the good news of Christian mysticism is for everyone, not just for people who see eye to eye with me politically, and so I am hesitant to alienate some readers with my political views. Obviously, some political bloggers write in order to persuade or defend their viewpoints, but I don’t think I am knowledgeable enough or eloquent enough to do that effectively. At the end of the day, I’d rather see more and more people engaging in contemplative prayer and a spirituality grounded in forgiveness, compassion, and joyful [...]

Last night I wanted to get the latest news about Russia and Georgia, beacuse (if you subscribe to conventional politics) this situation is just a little more worthy f our attention…
Military help for Georgia is a ‘declaration of war’, says Moscow in extraordinary warning to the West - Kremlin’s envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin - source
But at the time, I couldn’t get much news, becasue of the saturation coverage of Madame Taussauds animated waxwork John McCain, picking Sarah Palin as his VP. No doubt a committed Zionist and advocate of bombing Iran. The newz was going on about Iraqi Bomber Barak Obama has his love in at the Democratic nomination party (eeewww…), painfully heaped upon the fact I didn’t have an internet connection!!!
Anyway, it emerges that both “Israyhell’s security is sacrosanct” Obama, and bomb-bomb-bomb-Iran-McCain have said they will stop the US’s need for oil from the middle east.
The two have obviously [...]

I personally think the moratorium on addressing Obama’s race and McCain’s age should be lifted.
I’ve got to admit, the two major party nominees apparent have been pretty good about steering clear of these topics. Don’t you agree? Except for Senator Obama’s major speech on race issues in America during the Democratic primary and vague references to race in speeches he made last month, i.e., not being from central casting or looking like all those Presidents on U.S. paper currency, I can’t recall either candidate violating their campaign pledges to avoid these topics. Of course, McCain’s campaign was quick to claim that Obama’s central casting/paper money comments was playing the so-called race card. But recall that McCain has often spoken to the age issue, saying that he would only seek to serve one term because of it, claiming to be physically and mentally alert and promising to work hard. Tit for tat, [...]

The Center for Responsive Politics gives 1.7 million reasons why these beasts are so tough to tame:
With Congress set to weigh in on the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department’s plan to rescue Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, the increase in political contributions by the two corporations’ political action committees is receiving extra attention. Specifically, over the last two congressional cycles, PACs for both groups, which started donating in 2004, have contributed a combined $1,842,297 to federal candidates, according to data gathered by the Center for Responsive Politics.
Freddie and Fannie political spending takes many forms: The 2005 Center for Public Integrity PowerTrips investigation highlighted instances of Freddie and Fannie-sponsored travel in an examination of five-and-a-half years of congressional documents.
The Center found that during the period between January 1, 2000, and June 30, 2005, Freddie Mac paid $16,939.52 for 11 congressional staff trips. Fannie Mae nearly doubled that total, picking up the [...]

IS THE Conservative Party libertarian? Judging by comments left on this and other blogs by their supporters, the answer has to be a resounding “yes”.
But Dizzy has today has an intersting post, contrasting the populist views of leading Tories like Ed Vaizey and Iain Duncan Smith with libertarians on the specific issue of the controversy over The Dark Knight and its certification.
The fact, surely, is that the Tory party will only ever be as libertarian as the electorate will allow them, and as authoritarian as the electorate want. There’s no principle at all here. Should the party adopt a more libertarian stance on Issue X? A quick poll suggests 30 per cent in favour, with 32 per cent for a more authoritarian approach. Decision: authoritarian approach.
Isn’t politics so easy when you’re in opposition?

This is a very interesting article on the troubles facing the German Social Democratic party. Left-leaning “Social Democratic parties” took hold all over Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the German Social Democratic party is one of the oldest and largest still remaining. And I’m sorry if you aren’t interested in German politics, but I really like these types of articles because they show trends. Not to mention that Germany is the largest and most important country in Europe, so I guess that it is good to at least have a general idea of the state of its politics.

And if you need some encouragement to read the article, there is a great name on the second page.

Yeah! The best bike ever.
The Oilympix are about to get underway begin. In its preparation, Millions of gallons of fuel have been burnt, more radioactive isotopes likely to survive mans existence on this little ball have been synthesised and absolutely NOTHING has been done to relieve the economic hell half of humanity must face every day of their suffering life-span.
Still, who cares? Whats that crappy meaningless phrase? Aaah yes, “The games must go on” (unlike the life of the 20,000 kids that die each day simply because politics stops them from being able to get food)
Reality check over…
Is it just me, or in the build-up, has the BBC (that UK organisation that pumps propaganda as news) and the rest of the British MSM, taken virtually EVERY opportunity to cast doubt on the games, China, and almost everything Chinese (apart from the food of course). China you see is the source of great anguish around the [...]

I completely agree with Jesse Walker who says,
Could we retire the phrase “the race card” already? It rivals only “throw [X] under the bus” as the most annoying cliché of the year.
This election season has been especially awesome for cliche-lovers. Its all part of the same old politics, and displays a total disrespect for change we can believe in. Also this obsessions with bounces and statistical ties is highly disconcerting. Lets start talking about some real issues instead of figuring out who is ready to lead and who are the ones we have been waiting for.

Well, it’s being reported that Hilary Clinton is “seeking a way for her delegates to be heard at the Democratic National Convention”. Honestly, that’s not that bad an idea but she needs to do a lot more than that. Why? Because some people that consider themselves her supporters are, and this is putting it mildly, out of their frickin’ minds. I run into people on various blogs that support these sites and say that they aren’t basing it on bitterness, hatred and resentment that their candidate lost. I don’t think I really need to go into details as to why I think that they are being completely disingenuous when they make this claim, except to suggest you check out these web sites. It won’t take a ton of digging to find the hatred oozing from the screen.

Barack Obama and John McCain have been having quite a discussion about air pressure as a salve to high energy prices. Does anyone else see the irony in this: a couple of politicians talking about the benefits of properly inflated air bags? I though the proper inflation of air bags was the whole point of politics, not just saving gas.
