ENGLISH CHANNEL TUNNEL (CHUNNEL) FIRE CONTINUES TO BURN

PARIS - France’s transportation minister says firefighters are still trying to put out a fire in a tunnel under the English Channel a day after it broke out.
Dominique Bussereau says on French radio that undersea train traffic between England and France remains suspended.
Bussereau, speaking on Europe-1 radio Friday, said the cause of the fire was likely accidental.
The fire broke out Thursday on a train shuttling trucks from England to France. Fourteen people were injured, with six of them suffering from smoke inhalation.
Officials said Thursday that firefighters on both sides of the Channel had got the blaze under control but weren’t able to entirely extinguish it.
Bussereau would not speculate on how long the tunnel would be closed to traffic, saying “we first have to put out the fire.”
