The New York Review of Books has an article by Andrew Hacker discussing ID-requiring state voter laws that wind up directly and/or indirectly disenfranchising minorities.
Requiring a driver’s license to vote has a disparate racial impact, a finding that once commanded judicial notice. To apply for the state ID card that Indiana offers as an alternative, moreover, nondrivers must travel to a motor vehicles office, which for many would be a lengthy trip. While licenses do not record race, Justice David Souter cited relevant studies of the race of license-holders in his dissent, which was joined by Justices Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. In one survey, made by the Department of Justice in 1994, black residents of Louisiana were found to be four to five times more likely not to have the official photograph needed for an identifying document. (Not to mention access to a car; recall how many couldn’t [...]

America is not in a good place right now. Blame the economy, blame the housing market, blame the war in Iraq, blame political parties, blame whoever you want but you will not find the real reason in those issues. What’s more… you will not find your solution in Obama or McCain. America needs God to come back… I mean like invade our hearts, invade the hearts of our lawmakers and with God back we will destroy the “serve-me” attitude that has become a cancer to this country.
I believe I will see the day when our laws will give us true freedom because if the Son has set you free you are free indeed! I’m not saying we need to make Christianity the state religion, which will never happen… but we need to return this country to our roots. Christ is in this country’s roots and no one can deny that! [...]

I don’t own a TV, so I will try to post interesting interviews, as they surface on the web, for others in the same boat.
The Democratic Duo’s first interview after Invesco Field speech and Palin for VP announcement.

Although I plan on voting for Barack Obama in the upcoming election, I’m trying to remain fair. I don’t “hate” McCain, I don’t think he’s a bad person, I try not to belittle him, and I don’t think everything he says and does is wrong, by any means. I think he has a LOT of positive qualities. But this one just made my head hurt. The quote below is in reference to his running-mate, Governor Sarah Palin (who I’m sure is also a lovely, intelligent person).
” ‘I think Sen. Obama, if they want to do down that route, in all candor, she has far, far more experience than Sen. Obama does,’ McCain said. He cited Palin’s stint as governor of a “state that produces 20 percent of America’s energy” as well as her previous membership in the PTA and her time spent on the city council and in the mayor’s [...]

From Anchorage Daily News:
State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to give her the news.
“She’s not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?” said Green, a Republican from Palin’s hometown of Wasilla. “Look at what she’s done to this state. What would she do to the nation?”
Cheers?
Tom

Well since I have been attacked by plenty of wingnuts, and it was my intention to continue with “Talking Policies,” this was more important. I felt it must be time to take the gloves off. Hear me roar about you bunch of hypocritical wanna rule the world nut cases (which from this point forward will be called the McCain syndrome).
8 years ago we all let the talking heads tell us how Al Gore was not utilizing Clinton and got angry and made sure he didn’t make it and lived through the tip of the iceberg of Bush. 4 more years after that we allowed the talking heads to promote, laugh at and sort of agree with the smear campaign that was promoted against John Kerry and he lost as well, while some of us agreed that you could have a beer with the town idiot called Bush.
The bottom line [...]

Expect much more of this type of crap. McCain is a notorious horndog. The Limbaugh Republicans are jerking themselves over the fact that they have a, QUOTE, “babe” on the ticket.
Palin talks about her career of bucking the male dominated politics in Alaska, but McCain’s top advisor recently said it’s OK that Palin doesn’t have foreign policy experience — or even ideas on foreign policy — because she would be “learning at the foot of the master” over the next four years.
The foot?
I’m going to have more, much more, on Sarah Palin in the days to come. I’ve been — and still am — at a wedding this weekend, which accounts for why posting has been down.
BUT, watch this video of John McCain checking out his new trophy candidate’s ass while she speaks.
This whole thing is sickening to me. The recklessesness and arrogance alone in picking Sarah Palin for VP ought to be grounds [...]

Anatomy of a Counterfeit Conflict
Good Lord in the heavens! Lion of the Maze says, if the War in Mindanao is authentic, then Piñol whose province was the first supposedly attacked by MILF should actually be dead by now instead of innocent men, women and children. Even the high and mighty Justice Antonio Carpio, he says, should actually be dead now. And former Pres. Estrada. And he asks, why are these people still alive? Because the conflict in Mindanao is counterfeit, fake, artificial, he says. Dr. Cesar Majul, Raschid Lucman, should now really be turning in their graves. Read the post here…

We’ve seen a lot of family from Barack Obama, Joe Biden, John McCain and Sarah Palin. They all love their families. We should vote for them because they love their families.
Below is a picture of the Palin family.
l’ll leave it up to you if the above rumor has any merit. I know I’ve heard that Barack Obama is a Muslim and that he was born outside the country. I bet his political opponents have helped spread those rumors. Yet these things are not true. Not all rumors are true.
I don’t care if the above rumor is true, because I don’t think it has much to do with Ms. Palin’s ability to be Vice President. It’s just that if you are going to run for Vice President of the United States as a champion of family values, then your family is part of the public debate. Especially when you are running as a representative of political party that has been lecturing people on family values [...]
